Hutarran is one of the great Iron Citadels in the land of the Iron States. It lies in the central lands of the Tomarin and oversees two dozen villages. The great citadel itself and the town around it are home to some 13,000 citizens. The population of the whole duchy is 27,400.
Hutarran is ruled by Duke Durkan Raeghur, a strikingly handsome duke. Tall and well-built, Duke Raeghur has no duchess, but is pursued by several noble women in the duchy who vie for his attention. An expert swordsman and a cunning tactician, the Duke is locked into a feud with the neighboring citadel Comalich. The Duchy of Comalich is responsible for the death of his parents (the previous Duke and Duchess) who were butchered in a surprise attack on the road. Duke Raeghur is driven by revenge and it has poisoned his heart. Once a happy prince, he now spends most of his time plotting and brooding.
Beyond his obsession with avenging himself upon Comalich, Duke Raeghur, arrogant and proud, has grander ambitions. He seeks to conquer the other duchies and rule over a new Kingdom of Tomar. He is absolutely convinced that his family descends directly from Tomar and that his family is the one true bloodline. He sees himself above the petty squabbling of the other dukes.
Because Comalich is ruled by a powerful wizard and because he will need powerful magic to overcome the other duchies, Duke Raeghur employs the services of Torvek, a wizard who is sworn to service to the family. Torvek once served the father, he now serves the son. Torvek is more than one hundred years old, but maintains the appearance and vigor of a man half his age, thanks to powerful magic. Torvek is a skilled wizard and wields a powerful magic staff tipped by a blue crystal.
